Today the Inferno brings a cool guest article by Cruor vault, he will be doing a series of these on his latest project... stay tuned for some fast paced highly converted Traitor Guard... More after the break.
Hey all Cruor Vault here.
When Duke asked me to do a series of guest articles for the inferno I was thrilled. Doubly so when he asked me to do them about my latest modeling project, Traitor Guard! Since BoLS… Er.. I mean… WARGAMESCON Duke has been lamenting the fact that our local store has no regular IG players. Of the five of us who went down there 4 of us played against Mech IG more than once! Not knowing much about them defiantly hurt our performance as a group. When we got back we resolved to do better next year by becoming more familiar with the list and its capabilities. We played with some lists and eventually came up with one that we think will perform pretty well under any circumstances.

Once we had a list we needed a theme. I already have 3 imperial armies so that was out. Our store has a decided lack of representation of the Ruinous powers, so I decided to go with a traitor theme. Once I had that I all I needed was to pick a theme. I am an avid reader of everything Dan Abnett writes. I used to read the early Gaunt’s Ghost’s and Eisenhorn books so much back in High school that I actually had to replace my original copies with new ones! Obviously I had to choose one of the myriad of traitor units presented in those books. I see Blood Pact armies all the time, so I didn’t want to “hop on the band wagon” and I really wasn’t looking forwards to converting stuff from the Cadian boxes. I decided that the force I wanted to theme my army around would be the Infardi (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Infardi). For those of you who don’t know or don’t remember, the Infardi are a group of cultists from the shrine world of Hagia, the birthplace of Saint Sabbat, and the subject of the Gaunt’s Ghost’s novel Honour Guard.
In order to get the disheveled monk look described in the book I went with Warhammer Empire Flagellants as the base for the conversion and use Catachan arms and accessories to give them the 40K look.
I decided to order the following to build the infantry with. Tanks will be ordered later.
THE BIG OL PILE OF STUFFS! |
7 Boxes of Empire Flagellants
6 Boxes of Catachan Guardsmen
1 Box of Catachan Heavy Weapons platoon
2 Boxes of Vampire Ghouls
2 Blisters of Meltaguns
I managed to get a couple of the 4th edition Armored Fist Squad Boxes and 2 of the new Chimeras from people through trades or as gifts.

What a freaking awesome project! As I said earlier Cruor will be back soon with update on this army as it progresses. For now, what are your tales of building a lost and damned list/ traitor guard.... If you want to see a specific army featured simply email me at Dukesinferno at hotmail. - Duke
Cool, look forward to seeing the Infardi progress!
ReplyDeleteImmortal here,
ReplyDeleteI've had the pleasure of seeing the initial conversions for his infantry and they are very impressive. Think Catachan's who haven't shaved in months in tatered clothing. They are great looking!
The list is impressive, and scary. I being one of those who doesn't face IG often, I look forward to cutting my teeth on this list (and knowing Cruor, be painfully knocked down a notch).
Happy Hunting,
Immortal.
