Feast of Blades Invitational Terrain Complete!

Feast of Blades Terrain Day: Part II
by Immortal

Well… after great toil and trouble from the minions of the Fabricator General (Damien), the BRAND NEW terrain for the 40K invitational is done!. 32 tables worth of terrain including 3 hills, 2 bases of trees, and one master-crafted ruin big enough to hide a Land Raider in per table have been built, based, sanded, flocked, painted, dry-brushed, and air-brushed. They have passed inspection from the highest scrutiny of the Adepts of Mars and are ready for play!
I for one wish that I didn’t have to judge this tournament, as it looks like it’s going to be a blast! Missions have been posted on www.feastofblades.com  as well as 3++ (http://kirbysblog-ic.blogspot.com/) and look like a lot of fun (and are, we’ve been play testing them thoroughly).
This weekend we finished the great terrain project as I wrote about last week (here). We focused on finishing the hills and ruins as well as putting bases on the trees.

6 Stages of Grief: The Losing Streak

A Veteran's guide to getting your arse handed to you.
By Immortal

"It was the dice, I swear." Yes, failing five of your eight 2+ saves against grots is mildly disconcerting, but hang in there, it can only get worse. Having this kind of luck every game has seemed to by my norm as of late, and many of my dice have been severely punished as a result. Draigo Paladin-Stars, rampaging Wolf-Stars, and being melta’d to death by Vulkan, these have also become the norm… sounds fun ‘eh.

So how do I survive in the meta game? Clearly I don’t, not right now anyways, but I manage to cope with it. Here are my thoughts and ramblings on how to get through that inevitable losing streak.

Wargames Con: Reflections of a Fluffy Army in a Competitive Environment

So, Wargames Con has come and gone and with it my short lived desire to play ‘fluffy’ armies in tournaments. Granted, I still feel that I can never fully let go of what an army stands for, after all I did decide to play my Blood Angels for the fact that I love what they are and what they stand for. That being said, I also enjoy the fact that they are competitive, if played in a preticular way (IE, Razorspam). Lets examine the hard lessons I learned in 10 games over 3 days…

HOBBY: Painting Power Weapons by Immortal

Hello again, Immortal here with a "how to" article on painting power weapons as part of our "power weapon week" series.

Now, there are dozens of styles and ways to paint your weapons, and each have there merits. I chose to go with a style very similar to those shown in Codex: Grey Knights; a mirrored blue color. The majority of my Blood Angel army is (you guessed it) Red, but a few of my units such as my Sanguinary Guard are not (see my "Death-(From-Above)-Star" article further down LINK. The blue accents the fact that the weapon is powered just by contrasting the red (or bone/white) armor.

Immortal's "Death-(From-Above)-Star" WIP

Immortal here with a quick WIP that I've been working on for my Blood Angels Descent of Angels list (the truest to form way of playing Sanguinius' own, IMO)... a custom Dante, Sanguinary Guard, custom Librarian, Sanguinary Priest, and a free handed banner. All in all, this is my Blood Angel Death-(from-above)-Star. This is going to be my center-piece army in my Wargames Con 2000 point grand tournament army in Austin, TX July 9th and 10th.

Glowing Vehicle Wrecked Markers Made Easy

How To: Vehicle Wrecked Flickering Smoke
A modeling article by Immortal

There are few things worse than flipping over a beautifully painted, free handed, rhino or similar vehicle over when it gets wrecked in a game. Many people place tokens or dice on a vehicle, but this can cause confusion, but these still do little justice to the vehicle that you spent so much time to paint. There is a quick and easy way to make effective markers that not only easily convey to your opponent that your vehicle is toasted and increase that battlefield ‘feel’ by creating flickering columns of billowing black smoke that you can safely place on top of your tank. Here’s how…

Death From Above! Part II

Decent of Angels Advanced Tactics Part II
Maintaining the Initiative

As mentioned in my previous article, the strength of a Decent of Angels list, as with any drop or deep strike list, is maintaining the initiative. Once your opponent gains the initiative and forces you to react to him you will start losing, no question about that and this can be said about just any army. This is especially true with a fire style army, as described in Duke’s series of articles outlining the various elemental styles present in most armies. Nothing will better prepare you for winning a game, especially at a tournament, than experience, but other factors will ensure that you have at least a fighting chance. Now, DoA armies are not the win all, be all army list. They have weaknesses, like all lists, and those can be exploited by anyone that knows them. Knowing what your own weaknesses are will help you defend against this. They have advantages as well…
