Wargames Con: Reflections of a Fluffy Army in a Competitive Environment

So, Wargames Con has come and gone and with it my short lived desire to play ‘fluffy’ armies in tournaments. Granted, I still feel that I can never fully let go of what an army stands for, after all I did decide to play my Blood Angels for the fact that I love what they are and what they stand for. That being said, I also enjoy the fact that they are competitive, if played in a preticular way (IE, Razorspam). Lets examine the hard lessons I learned in 10 games over 3 days…

Death From Above! Part II

Decent of Angels Advanced Tactics Part II
Maintaining the Initiative

As mentioned in my previous article, the strength of a Decent of Angels list, as with any drop or deep strike list, is maintaining the initiative. Once your opponent gains the initiative and forces you to react to him you will start losing, no question about that and this can be said about just any army. This is especially true with a fire style army, as described in Duke’s series of articles outlining the various elemental styles present in most armies. Nothing will better prepare you for winning a game, especially at a tournament, than experience, but other factors will ensure that you have at least a fighting chance. Now, DoA armies are not the win all, be all army list. They have weaknesses, like all lists, and those can be exploited by anyone that knows them. Knowing what your own weaknesses are will help you defend against this. They have advantages as well…

Death From Above! Part I

Decent of Angels Advanced Tactics Part I
 by Immortal

When I was first considering converting my glorious Blood Angels from a mech to DoA list, I scoured the internet in an attempt to figure out the best way to not only put a list together, but also how they are played. I found plenty on how to build a list, but very little on how they're played... other than "drop in close and shoot crap, if you survive, assault things, and kill more crap." Now, there is quite a bit of debate as to the exact composition that a DoA army should be. Be it melta toting honor guard, or which HQ choice to take, there are a few staples that every DoA list has (such as Vanguard Veterans). Let’s take a look at some of the more intricate parts of playing DoA.

Modelling: 4 winged Dante WIP

For those of you who have actually stopped looking at the models its time to go talk about my most recent modeling project: Dante with 4 wings.....Ok, Ill let you look at the other models for a second before proceeding. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Ok, ready? good.

So I always thought that Dante, being chapter master and all, should have more than just some lame regular jump pack with the BA symbol on it. When I saw how cool Sanguinor and Astorath looked I could totally see Dante being like "I like those wings, I think Ill take them." Astorath would whine a bit and Sanguinor would be all quiet but in the end they would give up their wings to Dante: Captain of Awesome.

Well, it took me two weeks after ordering Sanguinor at my FLGS to finally get him (A subject that will be covered in another post). but now I have all the pieces together to build my angelic frankenstein!

pieces:
- Sanguinary Guard: Torso, Legs, Helm, Shoulder pads, axe arm, with the long handle and axe head cut off.
- Death Company: Infernus pistol arm.
- Astorath: Axe, Wings
- Sanguinor: Single engine jump pack, Wings

I took his axe arm and cut off the axe head along with the long handle and put Astoraths axe in its place. I also Pinned The Sanguinor wings (and strengthened the bond with Green Stuff) directly onto his back. The Astorath wings will be pinned and GS to the Sanguinor backpack (Update coming). And I will take off the base that he is on when the back pack and Dante are painted.

Without further ado here are a few pics (WIP)
