My thoughts:
51 bloodthirsty marines can't be wrong, right?  I have played a list similar to this one and I have to say that it is a harder list to master than one might think.  Usually the temptation is to reserve too many units with a DOA list.  Generally speaking I would only reserve an 8 man squad and a 10 man squad (depending on mission type).  You might get shot up some while getting into grips with the opponent, but that is to be expected with DoA.  I personally don't think that I would take the infernus pistol, after two meltas the infernus pistol seems like an overcosted "oh and I have this too." plus if your rolling that bad a third shot wont help, hehe.  That said, if you gang up on paladins you're going to melta them all in the face, which isn't bad.  All in all this is a decent list, though I would love to see Mephiston squeezed in here somehow, oh well...  In the end this is a pure fire list, get into the enemy ASAP and hope you don't roll like crap.

What are your thoughts on the list? how would you play this?

  1. I play a similar list at 1850 points. Although I have a bit more mech in mine (Stormraven with a Furioso) and only three squads of Assault Marines. I also dropped the Sanguinor in favor of two librarians with jump packs. I've had a lot of luck with the list as the meltas with the squads and the combi-preds can deal with a lot of enemy mech. I've had a bit more trouble with horde-based lists, but even there I've learned to concentrate a couple squads for the assault and make sure I get the charge. The furioso also helps with those types of lists. My losses come when I get divided and lose the charge, also with my troops also being the main hitting power of the army, I have some trouble holding objectives.

    1. Great point, that is what I mean about a "fire," list. If you get divided or lose the initiative then things get very hard for this list

  2. That's my list! Yay!!! thanks for posting it duke. Been reading your blog ever since learning of it at feast. I'm pleased to report its become one of my faves. Thanks for running a top notch event out there in colorado, and I can't wait for it this year. I get to go visit my brother who lives out there simultaneously, so its a win - win for me. =)

As for the list, I was very pleased with it. I personally swear by the third melta in each squad. I've found three meltas almost always kill what you're shooting at. Two and you are gonna have a much harder time opening the can to get at the sardines.

I think in this list, Sanguinor is superior to Mephiston in multiple ways, but lately I've been shoe horning in a libby just for the hood.

For a batrep on how it played at feast, see below...

    1. We were glad to have you and I'm excited to hear your planning on coming back. I see what you mean with the third melta, it's just my personal preference. I love sanuingor and think he pairs well with mephi cause what one sucks against the other excels at. All in all it is a decent list that I would personally enjoy playing with or against.

See you at this years feast of blades!

  3. I would drop the pw off the priests. They serve their purpose. But I question the points worth. That said I love this list. It is the essence of DOA. In your face and dirty. I,ve been thinking about adding Mephiston for about 4 weeks. I've kicked around with Swags and just adding a standard libby

  4. I find the power weapons give you a smidgeon of tactical flexibility, and sometimes a smidgeon is all you need. Mephiston suffers in dawn of war and open terrain battlefields, and in this list I was going for all out effectiveness as soon as each unit arrives.

Vanguard and Honor Guard are swappable in mass with this list, I think, it just depends on the mission or enemy. Dropping the tanks has been a real consideration for me. They do give you that ultimate range and reach when they arrive, but often, and i mean real often, they simply don't perform. perhaps adding a third predator would suffice, for added redundancy, but I rather lend myself to the opposite playstyle, of a pressing close range envelopement.

I have also been deepstriking in a 5-7 man terminator unit (3 hammers 4 claws, with priest in termie armor), and I've noticed a remarkable effect that a terminator suit can have for a poor 1 wound priest. The enemy really has to resolve a noteable amount of effort to kill him, rendering the terminators that much more daunting.

Establishing the board engagement via deepstrike is not to be underestimated. Most armies have little to no answer for it.

  5. Thanks for throwing in about your termies. Im doing the same and was wondering about adding a priest.I also couldn't agree more on the tanks.Mine perform minimal at best and I mean minimal.I mostly run one to draw fire so jump units can move close.

  6. In my list i'm playing much more predators and razorbacks. The main strenght for bloodis are their fast cars :D

  7. I personally like how the Storm Raven works with Blood Angels. I would love to see someone with the balls (not BAALS!) to deep strike a Land Raider!
