Coteaz + Paladin deathstar = broken? new GK list 2000pts
After giving the new Grey Knights Codex a through and hard thought perusing I have seen one list that I wish I didn't think of... The reason is because I only want to do a pure GK army and I feel that this Coteaz + Paladin deathstar isn't fluffy at all, it just feels like taking the codex and finding a way to break it...
That said I think it will be a pretty hard list the only thing that it is lacking is the Librarian... Which I would have to drop the Grandmaster to take, perhaps I will run the numbers, but in all honesty the Grenade-Master is so awesome it is hard not to take, but then again the Libby is pretty epic as well.
Anyhow, here is the list.
Inquisitor Lord Coteaz: 100
Henchmen: 120
5 men
Death Cult assasain
razorback
- Assault Cannon
- Psybolt Ammo

I dont know that I like the assassins in the squads... Might be better off spending 85 points somewhere else. Other than that the list could give some problems, especially when deep striking the death star close to servo skulls. Anyhow...
Thoughts?

Nice list there Duke looks real mean.
ReplyDeleteI like the 6-wound Death Cult Assassins. Pretty neat way to play it. I might try to finagle things to squeeze in some meltaguns in a squad or two just for the "oh shit" button vs. Land Raiders and such. May very well be fine with the rending psycannons however. Also, where is Coteaz going? I don't believe he can teleport in with the death star if that's what you're planning on doing.
Well, I suppose I could drop an assassin and put in coteaz in a squad of henchmen. That would free some points up for that "oh shit," button you talked about.
ReplyDeleteHmmm.
I'm also writing up an all PGK list, I need to figure out what I'm going to bring to Wargamescon (bolscon)

I really don't think the Paladinstar is broken at all, or even really that great. They die rather quickly to S8 AP2/1 weapons, and there's not much you can do about it. The Razorspam is just that, decent but with only 24" range hard to hit people across the board. DCA sound fun, but I remain unconvinced that they'll be that great.
ReplyDeleteYes, paladin death stars can be rock/paper/scissorsed to death, but then again everything can. The big question is how often will that really happen? I have a feeling it is that often that your going to get 14 melta gun wounds on the squad... Vindicators offer a big problem as well as any other large last template like that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the 24" thing, after looking at it the list would be better served with a st6 heavy bolter and an additional 135 points.

I do think the Paladin squad will be good in combat, because then they start getting their better invulnerable saves and such, but a Guard army could fairly easily rip that unit to shreds if they concentrate their firepower. Vendettas, Lascannon HWteams, Demolishers/PlasmaRusses, Medusas, even vet squads with meltaguns.
ReplyDelete5++ just isn't good enough these days for rock units, it seems - that's why "no one" fields regular terminators anymore in SM armies, only TH-SS termies.
Paladins die horribly to Lascannons, Melta, Dark Lances, etc; they're really not all that frightening. Remember how many points you're spending on that squad and that it's not Fearless, only has a 5++, etc.
ReplyDeleteDCA are okay, but keep in mind they have no grenades and aren't a whole lot cheaper than Grey Knights, who get a whole lot of stuff for 5pts. Not as awesome against regular armored troops, but better against characters and monsters.
