XBOX: Kill team review
This last week I downloaded "Kill Team," which is a precursor to the eventual release of "Space Marine," by THQ. I wanted to give a short review and tell you all what I thought/felt about the game.
The Good: The game was very easy to get started with, the controls are easy enough for even my kids to play (as if my wife would even let them!) The graphics are a little previous-gen, but that is more than ok for a game that was essentially $10. All in all the world quickly grabs you in and you don't have too much time to think about graphics. Overall the pace of the game is very quick, there is little to no down time during missions. Orks and Tyranids come flying at you from all sorts of directions, and best of all some their 'entry,' points are obvious, but others are very well hidden. This makes you be a little careful when walking around with your 9' tall super soldier. The classes (Librarian, Vanguard Vet, Sternguard Vet, Techmarine) each have something to offer. Not only that but some missions are very easy with one class while others are very difficult with the same class... Don't worry though, you can switch classes between missions, or if you fail. I personally like the Techmarine and Librarian... I like the balanced approach that both of them offer, and with the ability to unlock ranged and melee damage bonuses they can be even more devastating. Lastly, I like how you can get new weapons throughout the game...
The Not-so-good: NO MULTIPLAYER! Yes, you can play co-op with your friends in the same room, but Xbox is a way that I stay in touch with friends from college and that live far away. We were all really excited about the prospect of playing this together online... We didn't figure it out until we had already bought the game. I mentioned the graphics, but on a cheap game I think it is a very small and moot point, and in no way inhibited the game. There might have been small points every so often, but really my only "bad," came from the no multiplayer... Oh well.
This game does make me really excited to see what Space Marine will bring our way in a couple of months. THQ has done a really good job of capturing the feel of 40k with the grim dark.
What are your thoughts on this game? Are you looking forward to Space Marine?

I played through Kill Team by myself and also with a friend. Its awesome. The length is perfect for an arcade game in my opinion. The score tracking is cool too. It is fun to try and maximize your points every time you face a group of enemies once you have played it enough to not worry about dying.
ReplyDeleteWe are doing a game night this weekend, so I will get to play the co-op a bunch then. I also like the tracking system, it gives me a reason to play the game over and over again.

Dude this thing sucks! It ruined my TV!!!
ReplyDeleteI wanted my own colors so I repainted the Marine like 5 times. Just to have him "appear" in a different place on the screen. Also I wanted a cool conversion on the Libby but when I tried to swap the arm I put a hole in my LCD!!! There is glue and flock everywhere, sparks are burning my fingers, its starting to smoke some...
Lets not even talk about the movement. First I measure 6" and try as I might theres now freakin way to push this guy around. And how does it know I rolled a 6, come on man! I rolled a 6 for craps sake do something stupid box.
Seriously, now I cant even watch Dexter. Thanks Xbox.
Swags, your doing it all wrong man... You forgot to roll for difficult retain, duh!
